Your body already has the answer.

The science. No magic. Just biology.

BROCQO is 100% broccoli sprout powder.

Broccoli sprouts naturally contain glucoraphanin and the enzyme myrosinase. When glucoraphanin comes into contact with myrosinase, sulforaphane can be formed, one of the most studied isothiocyanates (ITC).

Here we explain the research behind the biological processes in a simple way.

ITC

Sulforaphane is one of the most studied ITC compounds.

What is ITC?

A small plant compound with a great deal of research behind it.

ITC stands for isothiocyanates

Don't let the name scare you. ITC is a group of compounds that occur naturally in, among other things, broccoli sprouts.
The most studied form is sulforaphane, which has been investigated in research for over 25 years.
Interest in ITC in connection with physical exercise has increased in line with research in the field.

Why is ITC biologically interesting?
ITC has been studied in relation to Nrf2, a signaling pathway that is important in the cellular response to oxidative stress.

The Nrf2 system is one of the most mapped areas within cell biology. Research on it is still ongoing.

How it works in the body.

Four steps. Pure biology. No shortcuts.

1. Glucoraphanin meets myrosinase
Broccoli sprouts contain glucoraphanin and the enzyme myrosinase. When the sprouts' cells are broken down, myrosinase can convert glucoraphanin into sulforaphane (ITC).

2. Sulforaphane can be absorbed
The sulforaphane that is formed can be absorbed by the body and metabolized through various biological processes.

3. Nrf2 is affected
Oxidative stress occurs when reactive substances are produced in greater quantities than the body's defense systems can handle.
Nrf2 helps regulate the cells' defenses against this stress. Sulforaphane is being studied for its effects on this system.

4. Research continues
Researchers are investigating how sulforaphane and these biological processes relate to the body's physiology and physical exercise.

Why sprouts - not mature broccoli?

A mature head of broccoli is nutritious. But 3–5-day-old broccoli sprouts contain up to 100 times more glucoraphanin, the precursor that is converted into ITC in the body. During the early growth phase of the sprout, these compounds play a role in the plant's natural defense. Therefore, young broccoli sprouts can contain significantly higher levels of certain glucosinolates than mature broccoli.

Our sprouts are harvested at a carefully selected time and then processed in Stockholm using Bio-Lock Technology™, developed to preserve enzymatic activity throughout the entire process.

WHAT DOES RESEARCH SAY ABOUT ITC AND SULFORAPHANE

BROCCOLI SPROUTS & EXERCISE

A study of nine people examined broccoli sprouts in connection with intensive exercise.

The researchers observed differences in, among other things, lactate levels and certain performance measures. The results are promising for further research, but larger studies are needed.

SULFORAPHANE &
LACTATE

Lactate is a natural part of the body's energy metabolism during exercise.

In an animal study, the effects of sulforaphane on lactate transport and endurance were investigated. The results showed changes in lactate metabolism, but further research in humans is needed.

OXIDATIVE STRESS & EXERCISE

Intensive exercise affects the body's balance between oxidative and antioxidant processes.

In a small human study, it was investigated how sulforaphane-related compounds affected biological markers after exercise. Some changes were observed, but no improved endurance capacity.

MYROSINASE &
SULFORAPHANE

Broccoli sprouts contain glucoraphanin. The enzyme myrosinase can convert it into sulforaphane, a type of ITC.

Research on humans shows that active myrosinase can affect how much sulforaphane the body absorbs.
